Co-Director of the Cherub Choir
Your position and role at Powell UMC; What are you passionate about? I am co-director of the Cherub choir, play in the Celebration Bell Choir and use my piano skills as needed in a variety of ways. I am passionate about sharing God’s love and teachings through music.
What is the favorite part of your job? Being a retired music teacher, I love having a chance to continue to share my love of music with children, and help them grow in their faith.
Family: I live with my adult daughter Monica and our new puppy Tucker. Monica is a true lover of all things musical, Disney World and her best friend, Tucker. And Tucker loves nothing more than to cover her face with kisses!
Where are you from? I was born in Canton, Ohio and lived in Marion, Ohio after graduating from college and getting my first teaching job. I lived in Cali, Colombia for 2 years and then settled in Powell upon returning to the United States.
Background, degrees: I was very involved in the youth programs and music ministry in my church as I grew up in Canton, Ohio. I went to college at Capital University and majored in music education. I taught elementary music in Marion, Ohio for 30 years, and taught music Preschool – High School at an American school in Cali, Colombia for 2 years.
What are your hobbies? I love to play piano, read and take long walks with Tucker. My daughter and I also take regular trips to the Columbus Zoo.
Your favorite quote or verse from the Bible: Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
What has God been teaching you lately? I am learning that God often works through the people that enter your life just when you are at your lowest and need help. I have also found that sometimes you find your strength when you are helping others in need.
